Jichi of the water

00:01 | Water also has its master or its Jichi, and sometimes we consider [it], because once we were without water [in] the community. 

00:12 | So we went to another property to another forest, we went to invite the ‘Jichi’ [there] to come to our community, and that happened 

00:20 | because we did our rituals there, we all brought chincha (corn based beverage), food. 

00:25 | And we have made a ceremony with our wise elders, 

00:30 | who now rests in peace, she was a lady who did the rituals for us and took us to the place where there was a water spring. So we did the rite of exchange of products. 

00:41 | We had a bucket of chicha. Also little liquor and our… here we call it charuto, which is tobacco, right? So you have to share there with them [Jichi], as if they were right there doing the exchange of chicha, tobacco, aguardiente (liquor), well. 

01:04 | And then you express what… what is the reason for the feast there. We already asked them that we want water and that we want to bring one of their sons or daughters so that they can live with us. 

01:19 | And well, after the ritual, a few days passed, we almost forgot about it because we were working. And one afternoon, no, one night the storm hit us, right? 

01:30 | A very tremendous rain, very strong. And the lightning strikes with the wind, then we were scared, right? And then we remembered that we had made a deal with the ‘Jichi’.

00:30 | Ya en paz descanse, una señora era que nos hizo los rituales y nos llevó al lugar donde había el manantial. Entonces hicimos el rito de intercambio de productos. 

00:41 | Nosotros llevamos una cantarada de chicha. También un poco de aguardiente y también nuestro… aquí nosotros llamamos el charuto, el tabaco ¿no? Entonces hay que compartir ahí con ellos, como que si estuvieran presente ahí haciendo el intercambio de la chicha, del tabaco, del aguardiente, bueno. 

01:04 | Y después ya uno este ya le declaras a qué… cuál es el motivo del festín ahí. Ya le pedimos que queremos agua y que queremos llevar uno de sus hijos o de sus hijas para que vaya a convivir con nosotros 

01:19 | Y bueno, terminado el rito, pasaron unos días, ya casi nos olvidamos nosotros porque estábamos trabajando. Y una tarde, no, una noche nos llegó la tormenta, ¿no? 

01:30 | Una lluvia muy tremendo, muy fuerte. Y los relámpago con viento y ya nos pegó el susto, pues no. Y después nos acordamos que habíamos hecho un trato con el ‘Jichi’.
