Agustina Aponte introduction

00:00 | My name is Agustina Aponte and I am originally from the Palmarito community. I am 59 years old. Well, for several years I have enjoyed working like this in a group, [in] a women’s association. 

00:18 | When I had 3 children, I joined a group called ‘Centro materno’ (‘Motherhood Center’). That was in 1983. 

00:29 | A long time passed and there was no… Now, mobility is coming in from everywhere, people who come in to sell things. Before it was sad, there was no way out; 

00:42 | and well… those times passed and the community elected me as [president of] OTB (Base Territorial Organization). I was 6 years OTB’s president, exercising a communal position. 

00:55 | At that time it was sad because each leader traveled with their own recourse to the town hall in Conception. 

01:03 | And from here a 15 km walk, but I walked it between day and night at the service of the community. 

01:13 | And thank God, I thank God that so far I’m healthy and I’m still working for the association, right? 

00:00 | Mi nombre es Agustina Aponte y yo soy originaria nomás de la comunidad Palmarito. Tengo 59 años. Bueno, hace varios años que me gusta trabajar así en grupo, [en] asociación de mujeres. 

00:18 | Cuando yo tenía 3 hijos nomás todavía, yo entré a un grupo llamado ‘Centro materno’. Eso era en el 83 (1983). 

00:29 | Pasó mucho tiempo y no había… Ahora, pues entran de todos lados las movilidades, la gente que entra a comercializar. Antes era triste, no había salida; 

00:42 | y este, pasó esos tiempos y también me eligieron de [presidenta de] OTB (Organización Territorial de Base). Estuve 6 años de OTB, ejerciendo un cargo comunal. 

00:55 | En ese tiempo era triste porque cada dirigente salía con su propio recurso a la alcaldía, a concepción. 

01:03 | Y de aquí caminar 15 km, pero yo lo caminaba entre día y noche lo hacía, pero al servicio de la comunidad. 

01:13 | Y gracias a Dios, yo le agradezco a Dios que hasta ahora estoy sana y sigo trabajando por la asociación, ¿no?
