Wildfires in 2019

00:01 | We were here when the fire came from this side. We were also taking care of a land where we were going to work, we were going to grave it, graze, all that… and we were taking care of it, we went with water, to pour it like that, so that the fire didn’t advance, 

00:19 | but overnight we went back and everything had already burned. We had corn in some ramadas like this, in a little house, we had to take them out and put something clean so that it doesn’t get there, because the fire got the house and set everything on fire. 

00:32 | If we hadn’t taken it out, everything would have burned. 

00:35 | The cassava, all the bananas, everything was burned. There was nothing that time, we took care of the houses, because the houses are made of cusi (a plant in the area), [made of] the leaves, and we had to throw water to the roofs, so it did not catch the fire 

00:50 | Because of the smoke we could not understand anything here, the houses could not be seen, so we suffered seriously, I tell you. Almost for a little more the fire caught the houses. 

01:00 | And I felt very sad because I say if this happened, [the houses] light up, we were not going to have a house to sleep in, at least about the children I felt very sad, 

01:12 | because in this part of here it came [the fire] near there it came out into the open area. Until then it stopped because there was no more to get burned.

00:01 | Nosotros estábamos aquí cuando el fuego venía de este lado. Nosotros estábamos cuidando también una tierra donde íbamos a trabajar, la íbamos a tumba, rozar, todo eso… y lo estábamos cuidando ¿no? íbamos con agua, para echar así, para que no avance el fuego, 

00:19 | pero de la noche a la mañana fuimos y ya todo se había quemado. Teníamos maíz en unas ramadas así, en una casita, tuvimos que sacar y poner algo limpio para que no llegue, porque el fuego a la casa y encendió todo. 

00:32 | Si no lo hubiéramos sacado, se quemaba todo. 

00:35 | La yuca, todo el plátano, todo se quemó. No hubo nada ese tiempo, nosotros cuidábamos de las casas, porque las casas son pues de cusi, [de] las hojitas, y teníamos que echarle con manguera le votábamos aguas arriba para que ya no llegue 

00:50 | porque ya el humo no se entendían aquí las casas no se veía, así que sufrimos grave le digo. Casi por un poquito más llegaba acá a las casas. 

01:00 | Y me sentí bien triste porque yo digo si llegaba esto, se encendía [las casa] y no íbamos a tener ni casa ya para donde dormir, al menos con los niños yo me sentía bien triste, 

01:12 | porque en esta parte de acá llegó hasta cerca de allá salió al raso ya el fuego. Hasta ahí, paralizó, porque hasta ahí ya no hubo más que prender. 

01:23 | La gente de allá asustada porque podía ser que el del viento, porque el viento fuerte también eso podía pasar ¿no? 

01:31 | Estábamos grave, le digo, asustados. Toda esta parte de aquí llegó cerquinga [cerca] por acá a las casas, grave fue el incendio.
